For those who have been keeping tally for awhile, DreamHack: Atlanta occurred a couple months earlier this year. This was also one of their biggest indie festivals yet that they have held. While I did not get to see all of the entries, I know there were over 4 dozen indies on display. The amount of talent from first show experience to larger studios that have been around for years, it was a great spectrum of the indie universe in one area. For those who are interested in checking out a wide array of the indie world, you will certainly want to make plans for next year.
Unique to this DreamHack was the first public play session of a new fighter to the roster. This DreamHack was the introduction of a former Mantis Shuffle favorite, Hina the fire sister. Her fiesty and ferocious fury brought the archetype the players of DreamHack have been asking for the most, the dedicated rushdown fighter. She made quite the impact as she erupted onto the battlefield. Especially in pre-release, stats about characters are asked frequently so I will include some of the interesting stats:
- 93 of 112 freeplay sessions were free-for-all stock
- Crispy B. took back the crown for highest usage with Neon as a close second.
- Hina’s debut event resulted in 3rd most usages
- Hina’s debut event also resulted in the highest quantity of wins
- Hina had the greatest usage count for the first day.
- Hina also had the greatest quantity of wins for her first day as well
- The character with the highest win rate was Miroi with winning 13 of 16 play sessions
- Each of the 3 fighters with less than 10 usages had won more matches than lost
The section that most come to check are the tournament results. While there were a few training right before the tournament began, there was 1 special challenger that had happened to walk up just as the tournament was about to begin. Deuce came out and showed some great skills and plays. He made it through the entire tournament without losing a single round. When asked who he wanted as his his main, he replied Selphieroth (whom he saved just for the finals). This leads to a second convention tournament that Selphieroth has won! The omniomystic obsessed with revenge continues to leave no survivors in her wake!
